College of International Law and Diplomacy

Introduction

The College of International Law and Diplomacy (CILD) at AUBiH offers a rigorous academic program which provides students with training as legal professionals in preparation for careers in law, diplomacy, business or civil service. The four-year undergraduate curriculum covers the law of international legal and economic systems. In view of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s preparation to become an integral part of Europe, special emphasis is placed on the law of the European Union.

A Unique Legal Education

In contrast to the traditional approach to the study of law which emphasizes memorization of facts and rules, CILD’s unique curriculum utilizes case studies and an interactive teaching method to foster intellectual reflection and personal initiative. In doing so, we strive to educate professionals who think critically and creatively, sort through complexities and understand how to adapt to change.

Throughout the program, real world cases are presented so that you have a clear understanding of how different legal systems have dealt with complex problems over time. As an AUBiH graduate you will possess a comprehensive knowledge of the common law and civil law traditions which will be invaluable as you pursue your professional objectives.

A Comparative Approach

In view of BiH’s evolving position in Europe, this unique dual US/BiH degree program is comparative in nature. While special emphasis is placed on the American common law system, the curriculum remains sensitive to the need to educate students in the legal practices which are specific to BiH as well as providing a thorough grounding in the theory and practical aspects of European law.

Legal Reasoning
