Admission Policy

General Admission Requirements

As we receive student applications from all over the world, AUBiH’s admission requirements are flexible enough to account for differences in secondary school educational systems. Applicants are asked to follow one of the following admission options.

  • Present documents proving successful completion of secondary school in BiH.
  • Adhere to the admission standards of universities in the US: submission of a completed secondary school transcript and SAT I or ACT scores.
  • Complete the International Baccalaureate (IB) and submit academic transcripts and final IB grades. Applicants who have not completed all of their IB exams should send their latest transcripts and predicted IB scores to the University. If admitted, the Office of Admissions will ask applicants to forward their final IB results as they become available.
  • Meet the university entrance requirements for the country of your secondary school diploma. (Contact the Admissions Office for additional information.)

AUBIH organizes postgraduate and doctoral studies in the scientific disciplines.

  • Master may be enrolled by candidates who have previously completed an appropriate undergraduate degree and gained at least 240 credits.
  • The first year of doctoral studies can be enrolled by candidates with Masters Degree with at least 300 ECTS credits.

Admission to graduate study is based on open competition.

Transfer Students

Students may be considered for transfer to AUBiH, upon completion of at least one year in good academic standing at an accredited college or university. AUBiH may award transfer credits for courses taken at the university level. To be considered for admission and to have your credits evaluated for transfer, you must submit the following documents in addition to the regular application:

  • Official transcript(s) sent directly from the colleges/universities where the courses were taken
  • Detailed syllabi and course descriptions from the colleges/universities for each course

Please note: Transcripts from non-U.S.-accredited universities must be submitted to World Education Services for evaluation before an admissions decision can be made.

Visiting/Study Abroad Students

Students who wish to spend one or two semesters at AUBiH before returning to their home universities are welcome to apply as visiting students. Admissions decisions for visiting students are based on current academic records. To be considered for admission on a visiting basis, you must complete an application and ask your university registrar’s office to forward your official transcript to AUBiH. Applications from visiting students are only considered for study on full-time basis.

Language Requirements

The language of instruction at AUBiH is English. If your first language is not English, you must provide evidence of your ability to study in English by presenting one of the following:

TOEFL:
Internet-based TOEFL 61
Computer-based TOEFL 173
Paper-based TOEFL 500
SAT I: Reading 500; Writing 500
IB English A1 or A2: Score of 4 or higher
IELTS: Minimum band score of 6.0

Students who do not present one these credentials but who are otherwise eligible for admission will be required to take an English exam prior to the beginning of the semester for placement in English as a Second Language (ESL) courses.

Admission to postgraduate studies

Master - Duration: 2 semesters, 60 ECTS

Requirements for admission to master's study are:

  • Completed undergraduate studies and achieved 240 ECTS credits;
  • Minimum average undergraduate garde 7 or 3.0;
  • Knowledge of English;
  • Passed a qualifying entrance test.

Together with the application, candidates submit the following documents:

  • BA degree. Candidates who have completed undergraduate studies outside Bosnia and Herzegovina are obliged to submit validated diplomas;
  • Grade Transcript;
  • Proof of having passed the TOEFL test. Candidates who have not passed the admission TOEFL test, have to pass one till the end of graduation;
  • CV;
  • Birth certificate;
  • Copy of ID card or passport for foreign candidates;
  • Two photos.


Doctorate - Duration: 6 semesters, 180 ECTS

Requirements for admission to doctoral studies are:

  • Masters Degree from the same or related scientific field with a total of 300 ECTS credits generated (including undergraduate and master's studies);
  • Minimum average grade of master's studies 7 or 3.0 GPA;
  • Knowledge of English;
  • Passed a qualifying entrance test.

Together with the application, candidates submit the following documents:

  • Diploma of master's studies. Candidates who have completed studies outside Bosnia and Herzegovina are obliged to submit validated diplomas;
  • Grade Transcript;
  • Proof of having passed the TOEFL test. Candidates who have not passed the admission TOEFL test, have to pass one till the end of graduation;
  • CV;
  • Birth certificate;
  • Copy of ID card or passport for foreign candidates;
  • Two photos.
