History and Mission

Fifty years of Communist rule followed by the dissolution of Yugoslavia in the 1990s has created a society in the Balkans eager to assume its place in Europe and the world. The American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina (AUBiH) is a private, non-sectarian university located at the heart of the emerging economies of southeastern Europe. Founded in 2006 with 20 students, AUBiH now has an enrollment of more than 380 on its three campuses (Tuzla, Sarajevo and Banja Luka).

Mission Statement

The mission of AUBiH is to provide a discipline-based curriculum built on the American liberal arts model which prepares graduates to assume positions of leadership in business and government, serve as a catalyst for the political, social and economic development of the region and prepare Bosnia and Herzegovina for successful integration into the European Union. To that end, AUBiH promotes interaction within its diverse student body while integrating classroom learning and hands-on experience to encourage the development of critical thinking and the creative problem solving skills.
